A long time again since a post but my creativity has been focused on designing and sewing. I did stop in at Opus Art Supplies to grab some canvas supplies for an idea I have for children's bedroom decor. The brush and wonderful smell of paint should be permeating the premises soon. Adding an old painting as I just find a post without art is boring.

I haven't posted again for months. Busy planning and making a big move. Last two days in Edmonton now, all packed up, heading out Wednesday morning. Hopefully will once again get those paint brushes out and finally start painting again. It's been a long 6 months since. It's time and I am ready.

I've finished one painting which I will post as soon as I can scan or photo it and post. I've also started 2 new paintings all in oil (which I haven't gotten into for a very long time). It feels good to be back painting. I miss my biggest fan but still, I'm doing it again. It's all good. I will post again soon. Oils take a long time to dry. But it is so worth the extra patience required.

Commitment and note to self

Start painting again. I have to try something I haven't done in a while to get myself to start painting again. I've joined a drop in work shop starting this coming Saturday. I'm starting to feel excited about going and meeting other artists and picking up the brush that will hit a canvas. It's not that I haven't touched a paint brush at all. I painted my dining room and kitchen. Does that count? No murals, just painted walls. It still felt really good to smear that paint on. It's part of the whole experience. Watch the paint hit the surface and change it. Yeah!!!

It's already October. The spring and summer went by quickly. I didn't participate in any art related activities since last fall now. I haven't been able to get my head into it. Still trying to find myself first. Hoping to get inspiration and start all over again in 2011.

More than a month gone by again and my life has changed

What a difference a few short weeks can make. I am not the same person I was a month ago and don't know that I ever will be. My husband passed away on February 13th. I want to paint but find I can't. He used to be in the background supporting me with almost every brush stroke whether I wanted him to or not. He always gave me good critiques. I am at a loss as to what to paint but I want to paint. The canvas is blank. I am posting this watercolor. I did it with lot's of ideas from Jonathon about 10 weeks ago. I love this picture.

A Brand New Year

Here we are already almost finished with January 2010. How time flies and once again I haven't posted for some time now. It's not that I haven't been painting. Just not posting. Here are a few more of the snow scenes done for Christmas 2009 for my family and friends. You know who you are.

Before I know it I'll be gearing up for the new market year starting in May.

It's getting to be a pattern. I haven't posted again for a month. Have been very busy. Did a commission of 20 tabletop paintings for Desjardins Edmonton. They were distributed to guests at our seasonal gathering on Friday, November 27th. Here are a few tabletops that are left and a few that have been painted since.

I have one more market in St. Albert on December 12, 2009. That's a Saturday. Once that's done it's basically Christmas and come the New Year I hope I'll be posting at least a couple times a week. Have a great Holiday Season Everyone.

Wow, I can't believe it has been a whole month since I posted anything. It has been super busy and October just flew by. I have been busy painting though. I've done 24 small paintings. Because most of them are a commission and surprise I can't post any right now but will be about to in a few weeks. I'm putting up a couple though. It has been real fun doing these. Some are watercolor pencil, which is a new medium for me and then watercolors.

Been on a scarecrow painting marathon over the last weekend. Getting ready for St. Albert Farmer's market. I have a stall on September 12 (#153). I'll be there. Thought I'd do something for the fall decor. Table top pieces of original art (4 x 6 watercolors). Also added a table top penquin to the mix of Penguins. This will be Penguin V. Same thing... 4 x 6 watercolor.

Quick study, watercolor 9 x 12, of my granddaughter Claudia enjoying a moment at the waterpark. Used a few new techniques and I quite like how it turned out. Mind you the subject is so fantastic. I love doing my grand babies. Seems to be my new painting obsession. I should get permission from their parents though. Strange, for 18 years my daughters were asked to get my permission. Finally finished the watercolor of Deakyn, Laurie's (fabulous partner at work) grandson. I really am happy with how it turned out. Started this painting last fall and put it aside when I got busy with other projects. I am so happy I waited. Maybe it was meant to be that I needed to wait that long to get the final result. Hope Laurie and her family enjoy it.

This past week I did a piece for my niece Jenna for her birthday. She is a fan of the Lion King and went to see the live production at the Jubilee in Edmonton with her mother. I hope she enjoys the painting. It will be hanging in Powell River, BC where Jenna lives with her mom Karen, dad Wally and brother Reade.

The Whyte Avenue Art Walk is over. It was a couple pretty good days. Today there was a lot of traffic but not much interest in art? For any of the artists it seemed. Oh well. I sold half the MJ mini's so that was fun and Penguins III also. Here are the ones that are gone. They were some of my favorites too.

I spent the weekend doing some more MJ Mini's. I really enjoy doing these mini canvases. Getting excited for the Whyte Avenue Art Walk this weekend July 10 thru 12. I'll be at 106 Street & 82 Avenue in front of St. Anthony's Church. Rain or shine. Hope the weather here in Edmonton turns for the better. We are having a few cool and rainy days right now.

Painting a Day for Five Days

I tried the exercise of painting a painting a day for 5 days. Here's what happened. Took a break tonite. It's not that easy when you have a full time job outside your artwork. Perhaps I'll try a commitment of one a weekend.

Ukrainian Girls 3 x 3 acrylic on canvas

First was the Ukrainian Girls done on Friday, June 12, 2009. This is one of the cute little 3 x 3 canvases on the little easel. I really enjoyed doing this one. Second is Lei Lady done on Saturday, June 13th and I also had a lot of fun doing this one. It's a 16 x 20 acrylic on canvas.

This is the painting from the still life of Cezanne that I did on Sunday, June 13, 2009 at the class put on by Frank Haddock. As mentioned, I thoroughly enjoyed this class.

I was admiring what the others had done in their attempts at a few of Cezanne's landscapes and I decided to force myself to try a few little landscape studies / experiments of my own in the painting for five days.

Below is the first little 8 x 10 of Bow Lake, Banff National Park from a photo I found on a tourism site. I quite enjoyed this one and like the way some of the colors came together. I would try this one in a larger version.

Last came a landscape from a photo of a lavender field in Provence, France. This again is an 8 x 10 quick painting done in less than two hours. Painted on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. So here I am now today taking a break.

What did I do for my art passion today. I sent in membership applications to Visual Arts of Alberta Association and Harcourt Art Centre. I am really interested in trying the drop in sessions there which seem to be something I think I could really get into.

Just spent a most enjoyable day. Attended an art workshop by Frank Haddock "Paint Like Cezanne". I am once again inspired to paint, paint, paint. In fact, I painted a wee mini one on Friday night. Ukranian Dancers. And another one on Saturday. Portrait of a hawaiian beauty. I'll post them soon. But back to the workshop, it was very good for me. Being my nature to avoid nature and I chose to try the still life. I thought it turned out quite nice but more important still is the fact that I have decided to try a landscape. I was impressed at how the other students landscapes were coming along and have decided to try a few. In fact I can't wait. Too bad I have to be at work tomorrow. I'd rather be painting.

Well, I didn't last too long on the painting a day but I have set another resolution this year. I am going to exhibit in more events other than the annual Art Walk. So, I entered 4 pieces in the Deep Freeze - Art on the Avenue. I'm glad I did. Haven't received any feed back yet but the exercise of doing it made me feel good.

Breaking Promises

Well, this is a wicked day!!! I've actually got the nerve to post a blog. Welcome to the age of tech. A few months ago I swore I didn't need to do this but I guess I'm finding now that it's a great avenue for saying what's on your mind.

My pet peeves today are:

People who break a promise ..... you know who you are.
Other people who break their promises ..... oh, yes there are more.
